Obituary

Joseph Clell "Al" Mattingly, Jr., age 94 of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at VA Medical Center in Washington, DC.  He was born April 5, 1930 in Raywick, KY.  He formerly worked as an electronics technician with American Tobacco Company and formerly owned Mattingly Amusement and Vending.  He was a retired farmer and American Racehorse owner and breeder.  He honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clell and Josephine Galloway Mattingly; five siblings, Grace I. "Sis" Cambron, Charles Leon "Doc" Mattingly, Thomas Jasper "Pete" Mattingly, Joseph Merriell Mattingly and Joseph Larry "Hawk" Mattingly; one son, James Robert Mattingly; two grandchildren, Jason Thomas Hinkle and Stacy Marie Mattingly.

Survivors include three children, Cherie M. Hinkle of Owings, Maryland, Tammi Lynn Mattingly Hall of Louisville, and Joseph Mattingly (Michelle) of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Mandi Marie Hall, Kyle Brian Hall (Cheyenne Akura), Cara Dawn Hall, Sara McCarty (Shawn), David Mattingly (Kim), Christine Hinkle, Stephanie Young, and Sylvia Mattingly-Hammons (Joshua); 15 great grandchildren, KC Makenna Christman, TJ Tucker Bland, Zachery Philip Hall, Carter Vincent Hall, Saskia Haven Hall, Greyson Blake Joseph, Grayson Hammons, Kaleb Hammons, Remedy Hammons, Eva McCarty, Audrey McCarty, Luke McCarty, Mason Mattingly, Holland Mattingly, and Nicholas Antonio Carrillo; one daughter-in-law, Betty Mattingly; four siblings, Virginia "Bussie" Thomas of Louisville, Diane Mills (Tommy) and William Gerald "Jake" Mattingly (Karen), all of Louisville, and Joyce Ann Thomas of Raywick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 108 Main Street, Raywick.  Very Rev. Scott J. Wimsett, V. F. will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

The visitation is 3-8 pm Monday and 9-10:30 am Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm Monday officiated by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Pallbearers are the grandchildren and Shawn McCarty; honorary pallbearers are Jason Thomas Hinkle, Sara McCarty, and Stacy Marie Mattingly.
