Alicia Blandford Newton of Louisville passed away at home on Saturday, September 14th in the 98th year of her life. She was born on June 21, 1916, the youngest of six children.
She was a retired Jefferson County schoolteacher. She taught thirty-two years, beginning as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Marion County.
She was the oldest alumni of Saint Catharine College in Springfield, KY and a member of St. Rita Parish in Okolona, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband John C. "Carl" Newton; brothers Valerian, Basil, Borgia and Fabian Blandford, a sister Pauline Thompson and a great-granddaughter Jodi Zuver.
Survivors include her children Janet Shulthise (Joseph), Sheila Hawkins and Roger Newton (Maria) all of Louisville, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3560 North Saint Francis Road, Loretto, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle will be the celebrant.
