Obituary

Anna Marie Davis, age 105 of Bardstown, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Colonial Nursing Home.

She was born in 1908 in New Hope. She lived her early years in New Hope and was a member Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Brady Davis, three sisters, Clara Craven, Mary Stella Boone and Mayme Nalley, two brothers, Joseph Davis and John Davis and several nieces and nephews.

Marie is remembered for her many selfless sacrifices. Upon the death of John's young wife, Ruth, Marie gave up her job, moved to John's house to care for, love and help educated John's four small children, John Edward Davis, Nancianna Dugan, Charles Davis and Patrick Davis, all of whom are now deceased. Marie witnessed all of "her children" grow to adulthood.

She often remarked how the Holy Spirit guided her throughout those years. She joked that at times situations were troublesome especially when a young woman didn't know how to make soup! She learned to become a "mother" rather quickly.

Survivors include her niece, Marcie Davis Abell of Lebanon, her "grandchildren" Michele Mason and Amy Whetstine both of Franklin, Indiana, and John Dugan of Bardstown and many other nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at her beloved Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 3 PM – 8 PM Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 6 PM by Rev. Deacon Eddie Hutchins.
