Obituary

Anna Louise Hamilton Edelen, age 87, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 16th, 2017 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Raising her children in Loretto, her greatest joy and vocation was mother, wife and homemaker. She was a devout Catholic and found great spiritual strength through her faith. She and her five siblings grew up in Holy Cross. She worked for Barton's Distillery in Bardstown for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Minnie Hicks, siblings Junior Hicks, Adolph Hicks, Kathleen Canter, John Peak Hicks and Joyce Maglior; her husband Joseph Harold Hamilton who was the father of her children; infant daughter Mary Geraldine Hamilton; her son Joseph Harold Hamilton; her second husband George Edelen Sr., and step-daughter Angela Cissell.

She is survived by her children Gale (DB) Bhattacharyya of Lexington, Linda (Donnie) Thompson of Fisherville, Phyllis (Jerry) Kroggel of Nicholasville, Donna (David) Miles of Lexington, Doris (Wally) Thompson of Bardstown, Sam Hamilton of Loretto, Jane (Robbie) Reynolds of Bardstown;
14 grandchildren along with their spouses and 13 great grandchildren with two additions on the way; loved as a daughter-in-law Trina Judson; step-granddaughters Anita Eng and Sara Thompson; dearest friend and sister-in-law Louise Hicks and Brother-in-law Tony Maglior and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family; step-children, Wanda (Danny) Spalding of Springfield, Patty (Mark) Holt of Bloomfield, Linda (Johnny) Cissell of Loretto and Lee Ann (Eddie) Roberts of Holy Cross; Billie (Patty) Edelen, Dennis Edelen, Eddie Edelen, Keith (Debbie) Edelen, Doug (Pat) Edelen, Tony (Lisa) Edelen and Greg (Renee) Edelen all of Loretto and Ralph (Patsy) Edelen of Cox's Creek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Friday, January 20, 2017 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Hardesty will preside.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM by The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Serving as pallbearers will be her son Sam Hamilton and grandsons Brian Stephenson, Jason Kroggel, Aaron Thompson, Adam Miles, Cody Reynolds, Stuart Hamilton and Dylan Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Edelen and her grand-daughters Christa Hestekin, Tracy Francis, Jessica Miles Arbuthnot , Karen Downard, Amanda Thompson, Anna Reynolds, Chasity Joe Hamilton. Loving family friend Rhonda Livers will give her Eulogy. She was blessed with loving care given by Dr Michael Stiles, the staff at Windsor Garden, and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Sisters of Loretto, attention finance office, 515 Nerinx Rd., Nerinx, KY 40049. Checks may be made to Sisters of Loretto (in memory of Anna Hamilton Edelen in memo area of check). May she Rest in Peace in the grace of Our Heavenly Father.
