David Coleman "Benji" Benningfield, age 59 of Culvertown, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his residence.
He was born September 23, 1954 in Finley, KY. He was a former employee of Austin Powder Company in Willisburg and CSX Railroad in Louisville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Lila Mattingly Benningfield, his step-father, Francis S. "Bennie" Mattingly, four brothers, Charles Benningfield, Bobby Nalley, Elmer Mattingly and Lawrence Mattingly.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Brenda Morris Benningfield, two sons, Troy Benningfield (Penny) of Culvertown, Jarrod Benningfield (Jill) of Boston, KY, seven grandchildren, Dakota, Hannah, Cade, Braxton, Alex, Bristol and Finley, one sister, Bernice Reynolds of Campbellsville, one step-sister, Grace Smith (John) of Bardstown and all the Morris family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, July 18, 2014 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St., New Hope, with cremation to follow. Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.
Visiting is 3-8 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM by Rev. Deacon Jim Cecil.
