Obituary
Bernice Ballard, age 71, of Holy Cross, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012, at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
She was born February 9, 1941 in Holy Cross. Bernice was a retired employee of the Marion County Board of Education.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rueben and Anna Belle Medley Smith, three brothers, Juddie, Louis Kendrick and Earl Smith and one sister, Wilbie Corbett.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James Ballard, three sons, Scott Ballard (Ruth Ann) , John Ballard (Stephanie) all of New Hope and Neil Ballard (Lara) of Mount Washington, one daughter, Karen Nalley (Donnie) of Loretto, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara Ann Fogle (Gerald) of Holy Cross and Ada Jane Hamilton (Dee Dee) of Loretto, two brothers, Aaron Smith of Richmond, IN and John Edgar Smith (Grace) of Bardstown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Monday, August 20, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holy Cross, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle will be the celebrant.
Visiting 3-8 PM Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 5 PM.
Memorial donations may go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 301 East Main Street, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40202-1077
