Joseph Bernard "Bernie" Mattingly, age 91 of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his home. He was born April 12, 1933 in Marion County Kentucky. He established Kentuckiana Fence Company and had a successful business for 57 years. He had a strong Catholic belief and attended mass faithfully every Sunday.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Augustine and Mary Gertrude Spalding Mattingly; four sisters Mildred McCauley, Mayola Thomas, Sue Thompson, Geraldine Cecil; one brother, John Spalding Mattingly.

Survivors include seven children, Joseph Bernard Mattingly Jr., Christy Ann Mattingly, Mary Jean Flood (Marshall), Jacqueline Marie Hill, Connie Frances Fowler, Lisa Elaine Birk (Allen), and Jennifer Leigh Brown (Todd), 15 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren; 1 brother John A. "Junie" Mattingly Jr.

He had a passion for Country Music and had a natural ability to play both guitar and piano. He was a singer and songwriter and enjoyed performing for family and friends. He was an excellent pool player AKA "shark". He could run the pool table at will and was regarded as one of the best pool players in Kentucky. He was so good he would take his grandchildren to the State Fair and win each one a large stuffed animal playing pool. He enjoyed going to estate sales and finding antique treasures. Most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was loved dearly and will be missed.

Visitation is Friday July 26, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road.

Additional visitation will be held Saturday July 27, 2024 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at Mattingly Funeral Home; 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto Kentucky. There will be a procession to Saint Charles Church for a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM; 675 Hwy 327, Lebanon Kentucky. Reverand Scott J. Wimsett will officiate mass. Burial will follow in the Saint Charles Church Cemetery. There will be a celebratory meal after the Burial.
