Obituary

Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Newton, age 87 of Bardstown, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Landmark of Bardstown.  She was born September 30, 1935 in Holy Cross.  She worked as a seamstress and was a member of Saint Thomas Catholic Church and a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.  She was a faithful member of the TOPS group.

Betty was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne and Glenn Newton; 2 sons-in-law, Harvey Smith and Fred Dean; 2 grandsons, Michael Smith and Jason Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Bailey Smith and Chloe Livers; two siblings, Ann Cissell and Ray Clark; the father of her children, Eugene Newton.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Dean (Steve McCoy) and Debbie Blair (Bobby) all of Saint Francis and Lou Smith (Ike) of Greenbrier; two sons, Bill Newton (Vickie) and Gene Newton (Missy Miles) all of Saint Francis; 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nine siblings, Rita Reidel, June Fleming and Frank Clark, all of Colorado, Junior Clark and Don Clark, both of Greenbrier, Polly Lyvers and Marlene Armel, both of Bardstown, Darlene Armel of Indiana and Connie Redmon of Frankfort; numerous friends at Landmark of Bardstown.

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Rev. Richard Goodin will officiate.  Committal Rites will follow in the church cemetery.  Mattingly Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
