William Joseph "Bill" Daugherty, age 73 of Loretto, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his home. He was born November 22, 1948 in Marion County. He was a retired Engineering Equipment Operator for the Lebanon National Cemetery with more than 30 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed farming, fishing, flowers and spending time with his grandkids. He also loved his dogs "Bonezy and Jacky" and his many cats.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Elaine Leake Daugherty (died November 8, 2021); his parents, James Robert Daugherty, Sr. and Opel Delores Watson Daugherty; one sister, Rose Marie Mudd (Cletus).
Survivors include three children, Tammy Gribbins (Tim) of Saint Mary's, Melissa Gribbins (Jason) of Saint Francis and Michael Masterson (Teresa) of Raywick; five grandchildren, Timmy Gribbins, Ashtyn Gribbins, Madison Gribbins, Matthew Gribbins and Lydia Masterson; four great grandchildren, Adri, Brian, Carly Jo and Jace; four sisters, Judy Berry and Angela Berry (Lesley) all of Loretto, Josephine "Polly" Newman (Pat) of Louisville and Elizabeth Miller (Jimmy) of Cantonment, Florida; one brother, James Robert Daugherty, Jr. (Phyllis) of Raywick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Monday, November 29, 2021 at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 108 Main Street, Raywick. Pastor David W. Naylor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 3-8 pm Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Pallbearers are Michael Masterson, Tim Gribbins, Jason Gribbins, Matthew Gribbins, Ronnie Berry and Timmy Gribbins.
