Robert Louis "Bobby" Hayden, age 81 of Loretto, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born February 28, 1942, in Marion County. He was a retired employee of General Electric with 35 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He loved to hunt, fish and crack walnuts to raise money for Saint Jude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Leonard and Edith Mary Raley Hayden; seven sisters, Dorothy Medley, Betty Sue Hicks, Mary E. Yates, Ruth Miles, Frances L. "Fanny" Nalley, Joann Hamilton and infant Della Hayden; three brothers, Leslie, John, and infant George Donald Hayden.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce Morris Hayden; four children, Alan Hayden (Carrie) of Saint Francis, Karen Russell (Larry) of Loretto, Sharen Hall (Tony) of Louisville and David Hayden of Pike County; four grandchildren, Brooklyn Russell, Landon Russell (Alice), Cole Hayden, and Bryce Hayden; one sister, Peggy Browning (Jim) of Lebanon; one brother, Fred Hayden (Linda) of Louisville; one brother-in-law, Bobby Miles of Loretto.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto. Rev. David W. Naylor will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The visitation is from 3-8 pm Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant. The prayer service and funeral will be livestreamed onto the Mattingly Funeral Home Facebook page.
Memorials may go to Saint Jude Children's Research or Hosparus Health Green River.
Pallbearers are nephews, Phil Medley, Jimmy Yates, Jerry Miles, Billy Hamilton, Michael Hicks, and Jamie Browning.
