Obituary

Joseph Albert "Boot" Masterson, age 84 of New Hope, passed away January 30, 2014 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

He was born November 9, 1929 in Nelson County. He formerly worked at the New Hope Grocery and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved nature and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Ignatius and Mary Lilly Woods Masterson, one infant daughter, Mary Masterson, five sisters, Rosine O'Bryan, Cecelia Cissell, Sister Matilda Masterson, Bertha Masterson and Nancy McCauley and four brothers, George, Robert, John "Tee" and Jim Masterson.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Lou Riggs Masterson, one daughter, Kay Allgeier (Dennis), one son, Ray Masterson, two grandsons, Jacob and Levi, all of Bardstown, two sisters, Anna Lee Greenwell of Bardstown and Margaret Smith of Connersville, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St., New Hope, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Saturday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM by Rev. Deacon Eddie Hutchins.
