Charles David Ferriell, Sr. age 71 of Loretto, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born January 2, 1947 in Marion County. He was a retired teacher and coach with Marion County Public Schools, a former member of the U.S. Army National Guard and a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Raphael Ferriell; his mother, Dorothy Hayden Medley; his step-father, James Werner "Curley" Medley; one infant grandson, Joseph Andrew Ferriell.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Laura Hall Ferriell; six children, Tammy Thomas (Pat) of Loretto, Charles Ferriell, Jr. (Megan) of Raywick, Steven Ferriell (Amy) of Bardstown, Susan Livers (Joey) of Lebanon, Allyson Stine (Timmy) of Springfield and Elizabeth Long (Gary) of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren; Danielle Mattingly, Aaron Mattingly, Sarah Ferriell, Alex Thomas, Tyler Livers, Kyle Thomas, Maria Ferriell, Lauren Ferriell, Jake Thomas, Kameron Ferriell, Trey Stine, Katelyn Livers, Braden Stine, Preston Ferriell and Mallory Ferriell; two sisters, Bette Kaye Howell (Fred) of Elizabethtown and Julie Franklin (Brian) of Versailles; two brothers, Bishop William F. Medley of Owensboro and Phil Medley (Lynn) of Bardstown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Most Rev. William F. Medley and The Rev. Bryan Lamberson will concelebrate.

Visitation is 2-8 PM Monday and 8 – 10:30 AM Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 PM.

Pallbearers are his brothers-in-law, Dennis, David, Steven, Chris, Mike and Greg Hall and Jeff McGaha, Eddie Masterson, Gary Mattingly and Jude Hamilton. His grandchildren will be Honorary Pallbearers.
