Clara Jeanette Hughes, age 72 of Saint Mary's, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Baptist Health Louisville.
She was born November 18, 1944 in Marion County. She formerly worked at the old Jane and Linda Sportswear and was a member of Saint Charles Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Francis and Mary Melvina "Mallie" Spalding Mattingly; her step-mother, Leola Medley Mattingly; four sisters, Betty Lou Brady, Eleanora Wade, Ruth Ann Sapp and Jane Nally; two infant brothers, Joe Vincent and Henry Francis Mattingly; one step-brother, Darryl Medley; one great-grandson, Tanner Strong.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James Roger Hughes, Sr.; two daughters, Janelle O'Daniel (Mike) of Lebanon and Robin Oliver (Gene) of Gravel Switch; two sons, James Roger Hughes, Jr. (Deanna) of Lebanon and Doug Hughes (Cheri) of Union; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eunice Luckett and Fran Craven (Donnie) all of Louisville and Rosie Mattingly of Lebanon; one brother, Billy Mattingly (Doris) of Lebanon; six step-sisters, Carmel Cecil (Bernard) of New Hope, Beverly Simms and Mary Cambron (David) all of Loretto, Martha Mattingly (Frank) of Bardstown, Kathy Graves (David) of Louisville, Jeanie Edelen (Mike) of Fisherville; six step-brothers, Carl Medley (Liz) of Louisville, Jimmy Medley (Burma), Sammy Medley (Cheryl) and Tommy Medley (Rita) all of Loretto, Leo Medley (Cathy) of Taylorsville and Charles Wayne Medley (Debbie) of Lebanon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, December 9, 2016 at Saint Charles Catholic Church, 675 Highway 327, Lebanon. Burial will follow in Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery in Raywick. The Rev. David W. Naylor will officiate.
Visitation is 1-8 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 PM by The Rev. Deacon Dennis May.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
