Deacon Joseph Edward "Eddie" Hutchins, age 71 of New Hope, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville.
He was born April 14, 1943 in New Hope. He was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois Company in Bardstown and was presently serving as Deacon at Saint Catherine Parish in New Haven. He previously served at St. Ann's Church in Howardstown, St. Francis Xavier Church in Raywick and St. Vincent de Paul Church in New Hope. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alice Mae Cheshire Hutchins, a sister, Barbara Ann Dant and a brother, Johnnie Hutchins.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley Riggs Hutchins; three daughters, Angie Hogge (Mike) of Lexington, Paula Roby (Timmy) and Gina Miles (Pat) all of Cox's Creek; one son, Johnny Hutchins (Carrie) of New Hope; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Phil Hutchins (Rosie) and Mike Hutchins (Kathleen) all of Lebanon, Joe Hutchins (Connie) and Pat Hutchins (Paula) all of Louisville, Keith Hutchins (Joann) of Georgetown, Greg Hutchins (Alma) of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Most Rev. Joseph E. Kurtz and Rev. Ken Fortener will concelebrate.
Visiting is 3-8 PM Saturday and 11 AM - 1:30 PM Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6 PM Saturday by Rev. Deacon Jim Cecil.
