Obituary

Dorothy H. Medley, age 87 of Loretto, died August 6, 2015. She was born January 30, 1928 in Loretto to the late F. L. and Edith Raley Hayden. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Raphael Ferriell (1947) and her second husband, Werner "Curley" Medley (1975). She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Strickland, a step-grandson, Jason Howell, sisters Betty Sue Hicks, Mary E. Yates, Ruth Miles and infant Della Hayden, and brothers Leslie Hayden, John Hayden and infant George Donald Hayden.

Survivors include two daughters, Bette Kaye Howell (Fred) of Elizabethtown and Julie Franklin (Brian) of Versailles; three sons, David Ferriell (Laura) of Loretto, Bishop William F. Medley of Owensboro and Phil Medley (Lynn) of Bardstown; three sisters, Fanny Nally, Joann Hamilton and Peggy Browning (Jim); two brothers, Fred Hayden (Linda) and Bobby Hayden (Joyce); 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Saint Francis. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Concelebrating with The Most Rev. William F. Medley, Bishop of Owensboro were The Most Rev. Joseph E. Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville, The Most Rev. David Chobe, Bishop of Nashville, The Most Rev. Charles C. Thompson, Bishop of Evansville, IN, The Most Rev. Paul D. Etienne, Bishop of Cheyenne, Wyoming, The Most Rev. Roger J. Foys, Bishop of Covington and The Most Rev. John Stowe, Bishop of Lexington as well as more than 50 priests.

Visitation was held from 3-8 PM Sunday and 3-8 PM Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM Monday by The Rev. Bill Bowling.

Pallbearers were grandsons, James Medley, Jacob Medley, Steven Ferriell, Charles Farriell, Cory Franklin and Brian Franklin.
