Obituary

Joseph Paul "Dutch" Edelen, age 89 of Loretto, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary.  He was born July 17, 1932 in Washington County.  He was a retired employee of the Loretto Motherhouse with 55 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Edelen; his father, Joseph Edgar Edelen; his mother, Lucille Montgomery Edelen Osbourne; his stepfather, Frank Osbourne; four siblings, Edgar Edelen, Jr., Louise Medley, T.F. "Tom" Edelen and George Edelen.

Survivors include one daughter, Jacky Wimsatt (Wayne) of Springfield; three sons, Joey Edelen (Trish), Jimmy Edelen and Jason Edelen (Jamie) all of Loretto; seven grandchildren, Chad Edelen, Fran Stone, Michelle Essex, Eric Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Morgan Mattingly and Alexis Edelen; eight great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Saint Rose Priory Church, 868 Loretto Road, Springfield.  Rev. Edmund Ditton, O.P. will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The funeral and prayer service will be livestreamed onto the Mattingly Funeral Home facebook page.

Visitation is 3-8 pm Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm.

Pallbearers are Chad Edelen, Eric Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Preston Essex, Zachary Essex and Carter Edelen.
