James Edward "Eddie" Thompson, age 70 of Loretto, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon, surrounded by his loving family. The Loretto native was born February 22, 1953. Eddie was the son of Joseph "Ed" and "Itty" Thompson. Eddie was retired from Hayden Steel and loved being outdoors. He loved sitting on the front porch watching the cars pass by. Eddie was an avid UK fan.

In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph Paul. Eddie is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Sharon Thompson; his children, Mike Thompson (Melanie), Jamie Mattingly (Todd), Stacy Thompson (Patrick) all of Loretto. Known as papaw, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Anthony Thompson (Hannah), Dakota Smith (Madalyn), Chelsea Mattingly (Cameron), Cody Thompson (Hannah), Makayla Mattingly, Ethan Alvey, and Alivia Alvey; three great grandchildren, Claire Thompson, Gatlyn Smith, and Tate Thompson; Eddie is also survived by nine siblings, Margie Semonin (Bill), Dickie Thompson (Rita), Brenda Leake (Chuck), Lisa Bowling (Berry), all of Bardstown, Sue Bland (Dan) of Shepherdsville, Joyce Mattingly (Ronnie) and Janet Newton (Timmy), all of Loretto, Karen Brady (Chris) of Calvary and Ray Thompson (Stacy) of New Hope.

In keeping with his wishes, non-ceremonial cremation was chosen. Mattingly Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
