Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Devers Harris peacefully turned the final page of 77 years God graced her as her brother and daughter kept vigil on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, IN. A heartfelt thank you from her daughter to all at Hampton Oaks and Autumn Woods who bettered her mom's life this past year with a special call-out to Cheryl and Crystal.

Elizabeth's journey began with her birth on July 26, 1936 to the late William Dennis Devers and Mary Ellen Masterson of New Hope, KY. She married John Patrick Harris of New Albany, IN on June 4, 1966, and welcomed their only daughter, Angela Marie McDaniel of Charlestown, IN, two years later.

What ultimately allowed her true happiness was the birth of her two granddaughters, Hannah Elaine (9/98) and Emily Alexandria (6/00) McDaniel. She loved those two with all her being and seemed to always have a special treat when visiting. She was the 'baby whisperer' when it came to settling the girls for a nap by walking across the street, holding and simply rocking them to sleep.

She attended school at St. Vincent De Paul in New Hope, KY and Saint Catherine School in New Haven, KY. She worked at GE Appliance Park and rode together each day with her husband until retiring. She then worked in the kitchen at Our Lady of Providence High School until deciding she was ready to relax and become officially retired.

She was a devout 'old school' Catholic and anyone who knew her can attest to how she felt on what that meant to her. She surrounded herself with many spiritual items that provided a sense of peace and comfort while praying the rosary every day. She read and believed in helping those who were less fortunate then her by donating to numerous Catholic missions. She believed in having masses offered up for her family and in particular her granddaughters and daughter.

Along with Hannah, Emily and Angie, Elizabeth leaves the following siblings who are blessed to have many memories of her:
Shirley Ann Devers of New Hope, KY; Martha Kimberlin and spouse, Chuck, of Louisville, KY; Joseph "Booger" Webb Devers of Cecilia, KY; and Mary Eugenia Anderson of Danville, KY;

The following siblings have passed on and have welcomed Elizabeth into her new home:
Lois Jean Richardson ; Dorothy Howell ; Dennis Devers, Jr.; Joseph Newman Devers; and William Paul Devers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Friday, October 18, 2013 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope, with cremation to follow. Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be 3-8 PM Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 PM by Rev. Deacon Eddie Hutchins.

Her daughter is asking for anyone visiting to bring a picture and/or memory shared with Elizabeth to be copied into a keepsake video.
