Obituary

Francis H. "Chuck" Clayton, age 90,passed away at his home Wednesday, June 17, 2009 after a long illness. He was born in Holy Cross, Kentucky on June 26, 1918, the son of Elizabeth Newton and Charles Hildren Clayton. He retired as Plant Supervisor of Seagrams Distilleries after 43 years of service. For 65 years, Chuck was also an Associate of Mattingly Funeral Home. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and member of American Legion Post 121, Knights of Columbus Council 1264, and a contributing member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, St. Francis, KY.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Agnes "Sis" Clayton, four brothers, Leonard, Paul, Charles Jr. and George Clayton, and his son-in-law J. Raymond Boone.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters Charlene Morrow of Middletown, OH, Betty Clan (Larry) of Louisville, KY and Susan Boone of Fairfield, OH, seven Grandchildren; Karen Hills, Doug Clan, Tim Boone, Glenn Boone, Ed Morrow, Susan Morrow and Kate Dykes. His great grandchildren include Sarah and Bryan Boone, Lauren and Lindsay Boone, Clayton and Kelly Clan, Kara and baby Dykes, and MacKenzie and Audrey Morrow; devoted sisters Ann Gribbins of New Hope, KY, Leona Lyvers & Catherine Rizer, both of Bardstown, KY; brother Louis Clayton; special friend Aurelia Cecil.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, friends and family honor his memory by doing an act of kindness in his name.

Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Saturday, June 20, 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The West Marion Senior Citizens will form an honor guard. Celebrants will be Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle & Rev. James W. Graf. Burial in the church cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Visiting 2-9 PM Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
