Obituary

Francis Lloyd "Frank" Thompson III, age 70 of Bardstown passed away peacefully, Friday, August 19, 2016 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

Frank was born September 4, 1945 in Loretto. He graduated from Saint Joe Prep and attended Bellarmine University. In 1967, he and his father opened Convenient Food Mart #77 on West Stephen Foster. In 1968 they opened "Daniel Boone Chicken and Beef" now Stephen Foster Restaurant. In 1970, with his brother Louie and father, Convenient Food Mart #106 on North Third Street was opened. In 1995 they remodeled and built the new Thompson Food Mart. Frank retired in 2010 and sold his interest in the business. Frank formerly served on the Saint Joseph Parish Council and the boards of the Chamber of Commerce and My Old Kentucky Home Country Club. Frank enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Thompson II and Anna Catherine Thompson; infant granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Thompson; father and mother-in-law, Charles Chester and Leona Ballard Simms; two brothers-in-law, Francis Wayne Simms and Charles Louis Simms.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jane Simms Thompson; one daughter, Julie Young (Jim) of Ellicott City, Maryland; one son, Frank IV (Marcy) of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Bailey Ann, Alison and Tori Young all of Maryland and Landry Grace, Tyler, Lexie Rose and Cate Thompson all of Missouri; two sisters, Saundra Lee (Dennis) of Bardstown and Cabrina Dant (Kenny) of Louisville; three brothers, Louie Thompson (Michelle), Wally Thompson (Doris) all of Bardstown and Jude Thompson (Harper) of Louisville; eight sisters-in-law, Sr. Grace Simms, O.P. of St. Catharine, Louise Edelen, Betty Blair, Vernice Simms, Rita Harrod (Tom) all of Louisville, Gerri Keysor of Laguna Woods, CA, Evelyn Edelen (Joe) of Naples, FL and Maggie O'Bryan (Joe) of Owensboro; two brothers-in-law, Chester Simms (Nora) and Tom Simms (Rose) all of Lebanon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, August 22, 2016 at Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral, 310 West Stephen Foster Avenue, Bardstown. The Revs. C. Joseph Bacheldore and J. Jason Harris will concelebrate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 PM Sunday and 9-10:30 AM Monday at Barlow Funeral Home, 2675 E. John Rowan Blvd., Bardstown.

The family requests expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to Bethlehem High School, St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral or St. Joseph School.

Pallbearers are Justin Koch, Adam Thompson, Jude Dant, Bridget Lee, Therese Lee Wethington, Karen T. Downard, Aaron Thompson and Ryan Simms.
