Gregory Francis Fischer, 74, New Hope, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Norton Hospital in Louisville with loving family members by his side. Born on August 1st, 1950, in Covington, KY, Greg dedicated much of his life serving his community and pursuing his passions. Greg's career included serving as the HeadStart Director for Central Kentucky HeadStart in Lebanon, where he made a lasting impact on countless families. A lifelong farmer and devoted breeder of thoroughbred horses, he found great joy in working the land and raising champion animals. A member of the New Hope Community, Greg was a founding member and former chief of the New Hope Fire Department. He also served as a board member for the former Boston Water Department, always striving to improve the lives of those around him. Greg shared his love of sports by coaching soccer at Marion County High School, Thomas Nelson High School, and New Haven School, inspiring young athletes with his knowledge and encouragement. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending days at the track. A loyal fan, Greg cheered on the Cincinnati Reds, UK basketball and football, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph Francis Fischer and Constance Rose Fischer Zimmerman, stepfather Robert Zimmerman; three siblings, Joseph Fischer, Elizabeth Hambrick, Miriam Kelly; stepbrother Bob Zimmerman; two brother's in-law, Howard Smith and Tim Kelly plus one nephew, Timmy Kelly.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Goepferich Fischer, two sons, Joseph Fischer of Nashville, TN, and Gregory Fischer (Lynn) of Narberth, PA; two grandsons, Jackson and Boden; five siblings, Michael Fischer (JoAnne) of Martinsville, IN, Mary Brackman (Mark) of Wilmington, NC, Anne Fischer-Smith of Tracy, CA, Connie Klump (William) of Glen Ellyn, IL, and John Fischer (Penny) of Marietta, GA, step brother Jim Zimmerman (Lorraine) of Apopka, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope. Father Biju Chathely, C.M.I. will preside.
The visitation is 5-8 PM, Friday, June 6, 2025, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7PM by Deacon Dean Giulitto.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, 1841 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, KY 40324.
