Obituary

Herman O. Hellmann, Jr., age 80 of Louisville, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at Baptist Health Louisville.  He was born May 28, 1944 in Louisville.  He was a retired employee of American Standard with 30 years of service.  He later worked at Churchill Downs.  He was a member of Saint Bernard Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman O. Hellmann, Sr. and Thelma Cunningham Hellmann; one sister, Mary Michael Dries.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Brenda Thomas Hellmann; two children, Shana Gentry (Brandon) of Corydon, Indiana and Douglas Hellmann (Kelly) of Louisville; four grandchildren, Madison & Isabella Hellmann and Bryce and Dylan Gentry; three siblings, Patricia "Pat" Lanning (John) of Crestwood and Judy McCauley (Steve) of Louisville, and David Hellmann (Martha) of LaGrange; many nieces, nephews, and in-law's.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Friday, June 21, 2024 at Saint Bernard Catholic Church, 7500 Tangelo Drive, Louisville.  His nephew, Archbishop Charles C. Thompson will officiate.  Interment will be at 3:00 pm in Saint Charles Cemetery in Marion County.

The visitation will be 9 am until time of funeral mass at the church.  Mattingly Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
