Archie Mattingly, 77, of Loretto, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born September 13, 1948, in Calvary, Kentucky.
Archie was a former employee of Independent Stave in Lebanon, and American Greetings in Bardstown where he retired. He enjoyed nothing more than to watch his children and grandchildren play sports and even traveled the state to cheer for them. He was an avid UK basketball, football and Cincinnati Reds fan. He was a competitive bowler and horseshoe player, winning the State Horseshoe Championship. Archie was also well known in the Loretto community for playing and coaching softball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bertrand and Mary Capitola Thomas Mattingly; six siblings, Michael Patrick Mattingly, Jerry Mattingly, Carolyn Mattingly, Clementine Bottoms, and infants, Mary Catherine and Mary Gesene Mattingly.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Connie Thompson Mattingly; four children, Michael Mattingly (Kristie) of Lancaster, Matthew “Boo” Mattingly (Kim) of Lyon Station, Amanda Beard (Jason) of Loretto, Jason “J Bird” Mattingly (Gwen Bickett) of Saint Joe; nine grandchildren, Auburn Mattingly, Baylor Mattingly (Hannah), Mary Beth Mattingly, Hunter Mattingly, Clayton Tungate, Nathan Tungate, JT Mattingly, Avery Mattingly, and Cannon Bickett; three siblings, Bert Mattingly (Glenda) of Campbellsville, Bob Mattingly of Lebanon, Betty Sue Devine (Bill) of Springfield; special extended family, Dr. Patrick and Stacy Williams, Jacoby Bartley, Lincoln Williams, Nicole Williams, Hannah Wolf, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on 11am Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. Father Lawman Chibundi will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Francis of Assisi Cemetery. There will be a bereavement meal provided after at the Loretto City Hall.
Visitation is 4-8pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto.
Pallbearers are grandchildren: Baylor Mattingly, JT Mattingly, Avery Mattingly, Hunter Mattingly, Nathan Tungate, and Mary Beth Mattingly.
Honorary Pallbearers are also grandchildren: Auburn Mattingly, and Clayton Tungate.
Memorial Donations may go to Loretto Child Care Center, 225 School Drive, Loretto, KY 40037.
