James Thompson “J.T” Reynolds, 70, of Saint Joe, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Center. Born June 13, 1955, in Marion County, he served as a captain with the Marion County Detention Center and was a founding member of the Marion County Rescue Squad. He was also a former part owner of the old Lebanon Drive-In. J.T. loved fishing and playing cards, was a talented carpenter, and enjoyed attending antique sales. Outgoing and friendly, he made many lasting friendships and fought cancer bravely for many years. He built the first of several cabins on Gault Hollow Road, where he was affectionately known as the “Mayor,” and he dearly loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Joseph and Anna Louise Thomas Reynolds; three siblings, Michael Alton Reynolds, Mary Rita Nally, and infant Joseph Raymond Reynolds.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathryn Ewing Reynolds; five siblings, Jeff Reynolds (Judy) of Bardstown, Ken Reynolds (Eric) of Louisville, Mary Lou Brock (Keith) and Martha Mattingly, all of Lebanon, and Robbie Reynolds (Jane) of Bardstown; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for James Thompson “J. T.” Reynolds will be held at 7 pm Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate. Cremation will follow with later inurnment in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
The visitation is 2-7 pm Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
