Obituary

James B. Thompson, Jr., age 91 of Louisville, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024.  Jim was born in Holy Cross on November 19th, 1932 to Catherine E. Blandford Thompson and James "Barney" Thompson.  He attended Holy Cross School, graduated from St. Francis High School, served in the Army, and attended Bellarmine College.  Jim married Norma Jean Greenwell of St. Francis in 1956.  His career as an accountant for the railroad relocated him to Louisville, KY, Baltimore, MD and Jacksonville, FL.  After retirement Jim & Jean returned to Bardstown.  Eventually, he moved back to Louisville for his final years.  Over the years Jim enjoyed golf, landscaping his yard, and watching his beloved UK Wildcats.  He loved providing homes and food for birds and could identify most any bird that visited him.

Jim's legacy includes his daughter, Debra Roberts of Cabot, AR, his son, Glenn (Mary) Thompson, of Louisville, his grandchildren, Marissa Roberts, Sean (Keri) Roberts, Shea (Josh) Heagerty, and his great grandchildren, Kayde, Kobe, Irelyn, Bryce, Aubree, Kaelyn, and Isaak.  He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Spaulding and Lynne (Phil) Bowling as well as many nieces and nephews.  He leaves behind his dear friend, Diane Schoenbachler and her daughters, Brooke (Rob) Weber and Lisa (Paul) Tuell.  Jim is preceded in death by Jean, his wife of 60 years; his sisters, June Hutchins, Doris Johnson, Connie Schickel, his brother, Allan "Dink" Thompson, and his son-in-law, Jim Roberts.

A special thanks to his caregiver, Ashley Bradley, and to his caredaughter, Brooke Weber, for their love, humor, and support.

There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude's @ https://www.stjude.org or National Audubon Society @ https://www.audubon.org.
