John Thomas “Tobin” Alvey, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, Indiana. Born August 3, 1937 in Marion County, KY, he was a former employee of General Motors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Benedict and Ruby Margaret Dant Alvey; two sisters, Joyce Ann Mattingly and Marilyn Marie Newton; six brothers, Joseph William “Dink” Alvey, James Garland Alvey, infant Clarence Alvie Alvey, Terrance Wayne Alvey, infant Gerard Donald Alvey, and Charles R. “Randy” Alvey.
Survivors include one son, Larry Alvey (Shawn); two grandchildren, Nicole Alvey and Hannah Taylor (Blake); two great grandchildren, Peyton Reed and Quinn Ruper and one on the way, Bennett Lynn Taylor; three sisters, Ina Steele of San Antonio, Texas, Peggy Lyvers (Wayne) of Shepherdsville, and Debbie Rucker (Danny) of West Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Tony Alvey, Sr. of Saint Francis.
Funeral Services for John Thomas “Tobin” Alvey will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Francis of Assisi Cemetery. The bereavement meal will be held at the Loretto Sportsman’s Club.
The visitation is 4-8 pm Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
