John Gerald Kidwell, age 85 of Manton, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at Flaget Hospital in Bardstown.

He was born August 4, 1931 and was a native of Washington County. He was a former employee of the old Springfield Redryer Company and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Alexander and Ella Loretta Gootee Kidwell; one sister, Mary "Sissy" Nalley; two brothers, Edgar and Richard "Dickie" Kidwell.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Winfield Kidwell; two daughters, Bernadette Kidwell Byrum (James) of Lexington and Bridgett Kidwell of Nicholsville; one sister, Bernice Hamilton of Bardstown; one brother, Robert Kidwell of Greenbrier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 6964 Cissellville Road, Manton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Matthew T. Hardesty will preside.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a vigil at 7 PM by The Rev. Deacon Rick Fagan.

Pallbearers are James Cox, Jimmy Cox, Pat Yates, Bradley Cox, Johnny Medley and David Hamilton.
