Obituary

John Spalding Mattingly, 86, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the VA Medical Center.

Born February 25, 1925 in Marion County, Mr. Mattingly was an Army Veteran of World War II and member of Local Union #89.

He was preceded in death by his 1st Wife, Frances Helene Mattingly, 2nd wife, Mary Kathleen Bowling "Phoebe" Mattingly, his parents, John Augustine and Mary Gertrude Spalding Mattingly, two sisters, Mildred McCauley and Geraldine Cecil.

Survivors include his five daughters, Jenny Thomas, Sue Ann Thompson (Kenny), Brenda Haas (Mike), Angela Marshall (Troy), Therese Kocis (Pete), four sons, Lonnie Mattingly, John A. Mattingly (Diane), Jerry Mattingly (Dee Dee)and Mark Mattingly (Tammie), three Step-children, Kenny Woods (Johnna), Don Woods (Barbara) and Mary Pat Thompson, 29 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren, two sisters, Sue Thompson and Mayola Thomas, two brothers, Bernard Mattingly and John Mattingly, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church with interment in Saint Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Saint Francis, KY. Military Rites will be performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Most Rev. Bishop-Elect Charles C. Thompson and Rev. Robert Dale Cieslik will concelebrate. Visiting is 1 PM till 9 PM Friday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, with prayer services at 4:30 PM Friday.
