John Austin "Johnny" Hardesty, age 85 of Raywick, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
He was born May 7, 1929 in Raywick. He was a former Raywick Postmaster and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Louis Hardesty, Sr. and Virgil Louise Violette; four brothers, Joe, Junior, Bobby and Jerry Hardesty.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Brady Hardesty; five daughters, Karen Orberson (Pete) of Raywick, Tina Hughes (Richard) of Elizabethtown, Peggy Hart (Gary) of Lexington, Connie Purdy (Bruce) of Taylorsville and Paula Aljawhar (Adnan) of Louisville; six sons, Dennis Hardesty (Martha) of Bardstown, Louis Hardesty (Judy) of Louisville, Douglas Hardesty (Teresa) of Tarpon Springs, FL, Glenn Hardesty (Melissa) of Ashland, Gregg Hardesty (Cindy) of Richmond and Jason Hardesty (Kelli) of Lexington; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Cissell of Raywick and Ann Mancy of Louisville; one brother, Mac Hardesty (Mary) of Louisville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 108 Main Street, Raywick. The Rev. James W. Graf will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4-9 PM Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6 PM by The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Chris Hardesty, Nick Hardesty, Brandon Hughes, Abe Purdy, Chase Purdy, Luke Hardesty and Travis Hardesty.
