Joseph Edward "Lightning" Winfield, age 77 of Loretto, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his residence.

He was born September 7, 1938 in Manton to the late Joseph Eugene and Mary Theresa Reid Winfield. He was a former employee of the Loretto Motherhouse and a Catholic by faith.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Alice "Sissy" Mattingly; one daughter, Cathy Winfield at home; one son, Charlie Winfield at home; one sister, Mary Ann Kidwell (John) of Manton; a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Saint Francis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Emil Kander will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Wednesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 PM by The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
