Louise "Lou" Cross Thomas, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022.
Lou was born on October 12, 1932, in McLean County, Illinois to Thelma and William Hayden Cross. When she was a young child, the family moved to Loretto, Kentucky where she and her sister, Elizabeth, were raised.
While raising five young children, Lou fulfilled a personal goal of graduating from nursing school. She worked in the medical field until joining her mother in the drapery business, becoming the owner and operator of Draperies by Marlette. Lou was a member of Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church for over 65 years and enjoyed volunteering there in several capacities. She also spent many hours volunteering for Little Sisters of the Poor and Down Syndrome of Louisville. Additionally, she was a member of American Legion Post 220 Ladies Auxiliary and Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Joseph Orville Thomas; father, William Hayden Cross; mother, Thelma Lamkin Cross Marlette; son, William Gregory Thomas; and furry companion and loyal friend, Mickey.
Lou is survived by her children, Terri Phelps (Glenn) of Hodgenville, Kentucky, Susan Dever (Joe), Todd Thomas (Kathy), and Judy Schwenker (Joe), and daughter-in-law, Cathy Thomas, all of Louisville, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister and lifelong friend, Elizabeth "Uba" Cross Treat of Shidler, Oklahoma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 2931 Pindell Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022, from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Down Syndrome of Louisville, Little Sisters of the Poor, or Mass of the Air.
