Catherine Louise Willard, age 90 of Loretto, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, February 3, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving mother, sister, nanny, aunt and a devout Catholic. She was born October 5, 1931 in St. Francis. She retired from St. Joseph/Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-nine years, Abriel Clinton "A.C" Willard who died October 26, 2012; one grandson, Frank Clinton Gognat IV; one son-in-law, Frank Gognat III, her parents, William Herbert "Herb" and Frances Susie Ruley Mattingly; two siblings, Norma Lee McQuillen and Joseph Marion "Jody" Mattingly.
Survivors include five daughters, Bonnie Downs (Ronnie), Patsy Edelen (Ralph) all of Cox's Creek, Brenda Gognat of Clarksville, Indiana, Annette Robertson (Roger) of New Haven and Sharon Ballard Clark (Joe) of Loretto; 12 grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; five sisters, Libby Mattingly (Hatsy) of Loretto, Rose Mary Stengal (Mike) and Wanda Roberts (Wayne) of Bardstown, Rita Mattingly Hinton of Louisville and Sue Downs (Ray) of Deerfield Beach, Florida; three brothers, Herbert J. "Jiggs" Mattingly and Randy Mattingly (Diane) all of Loretto and Phil Mattingly of Nazareth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday, February 7, 2022 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Richard Goodin will officiate. The funeral mass and prayer service will be livestreamed onto the Mattingly Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation is 1 – 8 pm Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with rosary at 4:30 and a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Memorials may go to ewtn.com or may be made at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Chad Clan, Jaime Downs, Brian Edelen, Mark Edelen, Michael Gognat, Joshua Ballard, Isaac Ballard and Christopher Robertson. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Melissa Ried, Shelley Martin, Dr. Maggie Ballard Buckman and Shelbye Willard.
