Mary Lucille Edelen, age 94 of Holy Cross, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary.

She was born July 29, 1924 at Saint Thomas to the late Will and Marie Cecil Lyvers. She was a former co-owner of Cash Variety Store in Holy Cross and member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Patrick Edelen; three daughters, Sharon Downs Stokes, Donna Costello and Renee' Howard; two sisters, Viola Smith and Beatrice Knopp; six brothers, Carl, Vernie, Fabian, Bernard, J.P., and Leo Lyvers.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Edelen (Sue) of Bardstown and Rob Edelen (Kim) of Holy Cross; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Ferriell of Louisville and Joyce Hornback of Lexington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Friday, September 21, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto. Rev. David J. Farrell will preside assisted by Deacon Donald Coulter and Deacon Arnold Downs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Pallbearers are Todd Edelen, Matt Edelen, Josh Howard, Parker Howard, Patrick Costello, Jonathan Ross, Curt Case and Cory Case.
