William Marcy Yates, age 91 of Louisville, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Landmark of Bardstown.  He was born August 27, 1931, in Holy Cross.  He was a retired employee of Dupont in Louisville with 40 years of employment.  He was a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff from 1978 until his retirement in 1994.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Yates; his parents, William Jenkins "Jinks" and Mary Blanche Clayton Yates; all of his siblings, Gerald, Tommy, Dick, and J. P. Yates, Jane Roberts and Mae Greenwell.

Survivors include two children, Kevin Yates of Fern Creek and Lori Laughead of New Albany, Indiana; several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; his special family caregivers, Paula & Kendall Clark of Bardstown.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Monday, June 12, 2023, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto.  Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 pm Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 pm.

Pallbearers are Cody Clark, Eddie Roberts, Jimmy Yates, Frankie Yates, Johnnie Yates and Cody Boone.
