Marilyn Marie Alvey Newton, age 76 of Bardstown, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. She was born June 3, 1948, in Saint Francis. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love for children was expressed in her employment as a daycare provider and with Saint Thomas HeadStart. She was a member of Saint Thomas Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Benedict and Ruby Margaret Dant Alvey; one sister, Joyce Ann Mattingly; six brothers, Joseph William "Dink" Alvey, James Garland Alvey, infant Clarence Alvie Alvey, Terrance Wayne Alvey, infant Gerard Donald Alvey and Charles R. "Randy" Alvey.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph R. "Ray" Newton; four children, Tonya Bird (Chris) of Versailles, Joseph Raymond Newton, II of Willisburg, Anissa Newton (Darrell Newcomb) of Elizabethtown, and Dion Newton (Jamie) of Bloomington, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Bailey Bird-Burnett, Alyssa Bird, Samantha Newton, Trey Newton, Sage Knoch, Cain Knoch, Avery Knoch, Clovis Newcomb, Wyatt Newton, and Adaline Newton; three sisters, Ina Steele of San Antonio, Texas, Peggy Lyvers (Wayne) of Shepherdsville, and Debbie Rucker (Danny) of West Columbia, S.C.; two brothers, John Thomas "Tobin" Alvey of Indianapolis and Tony Alvey Sr. of St. Francis.
Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Saint Thomas Catholic Church, 870 Saint Thomas Lane, Bardstown. Rev. Ben Brown will officiate.
The memorial visitation is 4-8 pm Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Memorials may go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
