Mary Dorothy Newton, age 92 of Bardstown, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at home. She was born March 18, 1925 in Holy Cross. She was a loving mother of 14 children and a member of Immaculate Conception and Saint Thomas Catholic Church's. She loved farm life and her dog Smokey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Marion and Mary Catherine Newton; four daughters, Leona Newton, Linda Fay Newton, Connie Sue Newton and Barbara Sapp; three sons, Joseph, Louis and Timothy Wade Newton; two grandsons, Brian Newton and Anthony Wade Newton; one great-grandson, Jacob Culver.
Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Ayers (Michael), Wanda Brooks (Bennie) and Phyllis Nalley (Charlie) all of Bardstown, Margie Tucker (Jerry) of New Haven and Doris Jo Bowling (Gerry) of Georgetown; two sons, Jimmy Newton (Sharon) of New Haven and Stevie Newton (Tammy) of Bardstown; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Arletha Miles of Holy Cross.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Saint Thomas Catholic Church, 870 Saint Thomas Lane, Bardstown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. J. Jason Harris will preside.
Visitation is 3-8 PM Wednesday and 9-10 AM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM Wednesday.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Ethan Bowling, Kyle Brooks, Andrew Newton, Mickey Ayers, Adam Nalley and Matthew Nalley. The other grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
