Mary Ann Flanagan, 86, of Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Springfield Nursing and Rehab. Born December 12, 1939 in Marion County, she formerly operated Countryside Florist. She was an active member of Saint Charles Catholic Church for many years. She was a beloved wife and mother, and she loved her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Jerome "Frank" Flanagan who died January 27, 2016; two grandchildren, Victoria Michelle Sharp and David Lee Flanagan; Her parents, George Bernard and Mary Ada Greenwell Rice; two siblings, Patsy West and infant David Lee Rice.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbie Essex (Ray), Mary Rita Clark (Tommy), Cathy Thomas (Brian) and Patty Yaden (David), all of Lebanon; two sons, Frank Flanagan, Jr. (Diana) of Lebanon and John E. Flanagan (Michele) of Pekin, Indiana; 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; nine siblings, Sue Ellen Ford of Calvary, Nancy Edelen (Moe) and Donna Hardin (Steve), all of Springfield, Theresa Rice, Paul Rice (Laura) and Rev. Nick Rice, all of Louisville, Karen Cotharn of Brownsville, Texas, Joe Rice (Linda) of Bardstown, and Garland Rice (Robin) of Ashville, North Carolina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Friday, December 19, 2025, at Saint Charles Catholic Church, 675 Highway 327, Lebanon. Very Reverend Scott J. Wimsett, V.F. and Rev. G. Nicholas Rice will concelebrate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The visitation is 3-8 pm Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Memorials may go to the Saint Charles Cemetery Fund c/o of the church.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Jerry Essex, Nick Yaden, Josh Flanagan, Christopher Thomas, Cody Thomas, and Cambron Thomas; Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters, Nicole Essex-Curtis, Kayla Essex, Allison Clark, Melissa Clark, Jessica Davis, Amanda Flanagan, Nikita Everage, Madison Everage, Lauren Yaden, and Emily Yaden.
