Obituary
Sarah Nell Hughes, age 83 of Loretto, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
She was born March 27, 1932 in Loretto. She was a former Lunch Room Manager at Lebanon Elementary School and member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hughes; her parents Charles Thomas and Mary Sarah O'Daniel Walker; one daughter, Donna Beaven; one grandson, Derek Hutchins; four sisters, Louise Ball, Dora Mae Farley, Lillian Murray and Sister Charles Maureen Walker SL; two brothers, Raymond Walker and Buddy Walker.
Survivors include four daughters, Monica Morgeson (Bobby) of Lebanon, Marcia Yates (Terry) and Mary Kaye Hutchins (Tony) all of Loretto, Rita Phillips (Rick) of Katy, TX; five sons, Ed Hughes (Diane) of Loretto, Rick Hughes (Susan) of Louisville, Michael Hughes (Robyn) and Todd Hughes (Jami) all of Bowling Green, Gene Hughes (Theresa) of Lebanon; one son-in-law, Rick Beaven of Lexington; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Hughes of Bardstown and Marty Thompson (Donald) of Louisville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Saint Francis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her nephew, The Rev. Charles D. Walker and The Rev. James W. Graf will concelebrate.
Visitation will be 3-8 PM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a Rosary at 4:30 and Vigil at 7 PM by The Rev. Deacon Dennis May.
Memorials may go to Saint Francis of Assisi Church, PO Box 74, Loretto, KY.
Pallbearers are grandson, Bryan Hughes, Robert Morgeson, Travis Thomas, Shawn Phillips, Noah Hughes, John Hughes, Terry Lee Yates, Bradley Yates, Scott Morgeson and Chad Hughes; Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters, Sara Lynch, Natalie Miller, Jessica Covington, Jennifer Shuemaker, Annie Blair, Melissa Stinson, Lauren Fitzgerald, Sara Jean Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes, Erin Hutchins, Kathleen Hutchins and Carli Beth Hughes.
