Marion Howard "Nick" Nichols, age 78 of Holy Cross, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  He was born December 7, 1943 in Leighton, Alabama.  He was a former employee of Owens-Illinois (now Fuji Seal) in Bardstown.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam.  He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Nick was preceded in death by his son, Marion Howard Nichols, Jr. (died 2014); his parents, Marion J. and Mary Elizabeth McGee Nichols.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ann Gardner Nichols; four children, Rachel Pettit (Mark) of Bardstown, Lynn Cederquist of Holy Cross, David and Daren Nichols, both of Loretto; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two siblings, Wayne Nichols and Teresa Holmes, both of Leighton, Alabama.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto.  Rev. Richard Goodin will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 3-8 pm Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.  The funeral and prayer service will be livestreamed onto the Mattingly Funeral Home Facebook page.
