James Patrick "Pat" Mattingly, age 83, passed away on Friday, December 1st, 2023, at Franciscan Health Care Center in Louisville. Pat was born on August 20th, 1940, to Thomas Bernard Mattingly and Chloe Lyons Mattingly in Calvary, Kentucky, a small community that always remained close to his heart. He graduated from St. Charles High School in Marion County in 1958 and proudly served in the U.S. Army while spending 18 months in Bamberg, Germany. He retired from General Electric Appliance Park in 2000, after working there for 35 years.
Pat was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather ("Grandpap" to five grandchildren whom he adored) and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Joseph Martin Mattingly, and Pat's twin brother, William Michael Mattingly, and one sister, Elizabeth Mattingly Thompson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Leta Bland Mattingly, son, Thomas Bernard Mattingly (Lisa), daughter Mary Ellen Howard (Pat) five grandchildren, Annie, Hayden, and Ben Mattingly, Kate and Jack Howard. Three sisters, Joyce Ann Spalding, Dorothy (Tom) Mills, Martha Johnston, and sister-in-law. Nina Mattingly.
His visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 6th at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 7th at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Calvary, Kentucky where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
