Paul J. Gootee, age 93, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 7, 2017 and started the next journey with the sun coming up.
Paul was born on March 13, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Joseph W. and Gertrude (Simms) Gootee. Paul worked his entire life as a painter, beginning at age 12 and painted in Irvington those many years.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Harold and sister, Cecilia.
Survivors include his sisters Hazeal, Virginia, Lorraine, Martha, Ruthann (Harold), Mary Jo; brother Joe Gootee II; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday, May 12, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 6964 Cissellville Road, Manton, KY. The Rev. Matthew Hardesty will preside. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM Friday until time of funeral at the Holy Rosary Church. Visitation was also held Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home, Moore & Kirk Irvington Chapel, 5342 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
