Ruby Alvey Newton Hamilton, age 97 of Saint Francis, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary at Nerinx.
She was born October 29, 1917 in Saint Francis to the late Joseph Nicholas and Elizabeth Margaret Mattingly Dant. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Thomas Benedict Alvey, Joseph Chester Newton and Joseph Eugene Hamilton; four sons, Donald Gerard Alvey, Clarence Alvie Alvey, James Garland Alvey and Joseph William "Dink" Alvey; four brothers, Clarence Alvey Dant, George Tilford Dant, Joseph Nicholas Dant and Thomas Shirley Dant; two grandsons.
Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Mattingly (Roger) of Saint Francis, Ina Steele (Ron) of San Antonio, TX, Peggy Lyvers (Wayne) of Louisville, Marilyn Newton (Ray) of Bardstown and Debbie Rucker (Danny) of Cocoa, FL; four sons, John Thomas "Tobin" Alvey of Indianapolis, IN, Randy and Tony Alvey, both of Saint Francis and Terry Alvey of Bardstown; one brother, Gerald Mattingly (Bernice) of Indianapolis, 32 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren & 13 great-great grandchildren and a number of step-children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Saint Francis. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. Her nephew, The Rev. Joseph Nicholas Dant and The Rev. Emil Kanter will concelebrate.
Visitation is 3- 8 PM Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM by The Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
