Obituary

Samuel Augustine "Sam" Willett, age 88 of Loretto, passed away July 11, 2014 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

He was born April 6, 1926 in Nelson County. He was a retired employee of Seagram's Distillery in Bardstown and an Army Veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A. and Lottie Watson Willett, two sisters, Alice Hagan and Leona Culver and five brothers, Richard, Joe, Louis, George and Woodrow Willett.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Hutchins Willett, one daughter, Lonna Willett Hardin (Roy Duke or as Sam called him "Charlie") of Loretto; one son, Sammy J. Willett of Louisville; three grandchildren, Billy Hardin, Troy Hardin (Melissa) and Chad Hardin, all of Loretto and six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Saint Francis. Rev. Bill Bowling will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 1-8 PM Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 PM by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Members of the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
