Shirley Mattingly Nalley, 89, of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Center. Born on March 5, 1937, in Marion County, Shirley devoted her life to her family and home. She was an avid reader with a keen interest in astrology and faithfully cared for her mother and mother-in-law, Mattie Nalley, in their times of need. She was a devoted member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cleaver Nalley who died December 2, 2014; her parents, Lawrence Birtle and Clyda Flora Wade Mattingly; six siblings, Dorothy Louise Deering, Rebecca Beulah “Bee” Edelen, Lawrence Monroe Mattingly, Sr., Hubert Ronald “Ronnie” Mattingly, Jeanette Lucille Goode, and Celeste Colleen Humes.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Smith (Bobby) of Springfield and Lisa Brady (Barry) of Lebanon; seven grandchildren, Kristie Knopp, Nicole Ballard, Amanda Carrico (Travis), Robbie Smith (Sarah), Coury Horsley (Ross), Jordan Brady, and Will Smith (Abby); 16 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Saint Augustine Catholic Church, 236 S. Spalding Avenue, Lebanon. Rev. Daniel Whelan will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The visitation is 4-8 pm Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Robbie Smith, Jordan Brady, Will Smith and great grandsons, Thomas Carrico, Kameron Embry, and Brady Ballard.
