Shirley Ann Wilcher Thompson, 90, was born in Lebanon on August 8, 1935 to Julia and Carl Wilcher

While visiting her daughter and grandchildren in Maryland she suffered a stroke and died on January 25, 2026 at Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Shirley graduated from Lebanon High School in 1955 and worked at WLBN radio station until 1957 when she married the love of her life, Robert Albert 'Buck' Thompson, also of Lebanon.

She was a natural dancer and loved to jitterbug, even taking to the floor on her 89th birthday to jitterbug with her high school prom date, leaving her cane standing alone on the sidelines! She was an active member of Marion County Homemakers Club until its dissolution, and still gathered once a month with her beloved Bunco friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele Thompson of Millersville, MD; 6 grandchildren, Kate Reddick (Steven), Michael Keegan (Maggie), Andrew Keegan, of Maryland. Daniel Higdon, Laura Thompson (BJ), of Lebanon and Seth Anderson of Campbellsville; 7 great grandchildren, Buck and Matilda Reddick; Wyatt, Kiera, Evelyn Rose, Owen, and Aria Thompson; and a brother, George William Wilcher.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Buck Thompson; her daughter Pamela Renee Anderson, her parents Julia and Carl Wilcher, and her sister Devota Riney.

Funeral Services for Shirley Ann Thompson will be held at 4 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto.  Interment will follow in Ryder Cemetery.  Rev. Dan Durham will officiate.

The visitation will be 12 – 4 pm Wednesday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
