Chester Alphonsus "Sonny" Morris, Jr., age 80 of New Hope, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born November 26, 1944 in Nelson County. He was a retired employee of General Electric Appliance Park. He loved to farm and raise cattle. He was a member of Kentucky and Marion County Cattleman's Associations and Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He honorably served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Alphonsus Morris, Sr. and Wilhelmina Gilkey Morris; two sisters, Margie Bozarth and Martha Medley.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joyce Drury Morris; three children, Carrie Morris Morgeson and Amy Korfhage (Eric), all of Louisville, and Bob Morris (Alison) of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Matthew, Maddie, Emma, and Ryan; two step children, Tony Hornback (Dana) of Arkansas and Carol Sue Wohlgamuth (Scott) of Cocoa Beach, Florida; four step grandchildren and one step great granddaughter; four siblings, Kenny Morris of Hodgenville, Libby Palmer and Mary Moczulski (Ted) all of Louisville, and Agnes Mattingly (Tommy) of New Hope.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Friday, February 14, 2025 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope. Interment will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
The visitation is 3-8 pm Thursday and 9 am until 11:30 am Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm Thursday.
Pallbearers are J. H. Thompson, Willie Downs, Matthew Morris, Daniel Morris, Billy Drury, and Billy Palmer. Honorary Pallbearers are Tim Drury, Donnie Drury, and Gary Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
