William Coleman "Billy Coleman" Mattingly, Jr., age 75 of Louisville, passed away Sunday night, October 13, 2024, at Norton Audubon Hospital.
He was born May 23, 1949, in Marion County and raised on Frogtown Road in St. Mary's, living in Lebanon, Loretto, and lastly Louisville. He was a retired Barber who enjoyed cutting hair for thousands of people for more than 40 years, last working in Springfield, Ky. He was an honorable and proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He volunteered to enlist during his high school years at St. Charles at the young age of 17. During his time of service, he learned the love of cooking, and he continued that gift for his family and friends all throughout his life. "Sunday dinner" was a priority in the Mattingly family and seldom missed. Sunday was his favorite day of the week. He was a beloved husband to his wife Shirley, beloved father, and grandfather to his family. He was a loyal friend to many who would give his last cent to anyone in need of it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman and Gertrude Mattingly of Loretto; three sisters, Mary Agnes Helm; Joyce ann Medley; Carol Kincer and one brother John Mattingly.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley Abraham Mattingly; two sons, Robert Mattingly of Louisville; Joseph Mattingly (Charity) of Taylorsville and one daughter, Geneva Lynch (Joseph) of Louisville and five grandchildren who he cherished and loved, Brooke, Hannah, Joshua, Benjamin, and Tyler. Also, three sisters, Patsy Lyon, Judy Blandford, Martha Hardesty, one brother, Patrick Mattingly and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Billy Coleman Mattingly, Jr. will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Mattingly Funeral Home. Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Saint Charles Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
The visitation is 10 am until time 12:30 pm Saturday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
